Supervising and mentoring junior researchers — such as scientific interns or rotation students — is a key part of academic life for many advanced PhD students and postdocs and can be crucial to the success of a research group. A well-functioning cooperation between supervisor and supervisee can boost motivation, improve the quality of work, and make the experience more rewarding for both. In addition, coaching skills can increase self-responsibility and efficacy, and transfer well to future leadership and team management settings. This workshop introduces the solution-focused coaching approach for academic supervision and supports participants in developing their own supervision style. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: - implement simple coaching conversation practices - create a psychologically safe and culturally inclusive environment - develop strategies to improve mindfulness, effectiveness and collaboration - design their own individual supervision guidelines and plan.
