This advanced Adobe Illustrator workshop is designed for scientists aiming to turn their exciting data into clear and engaging graphics for presentations, posters, or graphical abstracts. You will gain confidence in using fundamental visual design principles and Adobe Illustrator techniques to produce clear and beautiful visuals that convey the key messages of your research. In this course you will apply your new knowledge to your own piece with ongoing guidance and feedback. By the end, you will be able to: - plan graphics with purpose-driven design strategies. - apply key design and perception principles to scientific figures. - draw and compose vector elements using drawing tools, effects, and layering. - build complex visuals using a variety of advanced tools like brushes, symbols, blends, and distortions. Additional resources include a self-assessment quiz, a compilation of advanced keyboard shortcuts, and a detailed guide for planning scientific illustrations. Target group: This course is intended for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who have a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator. The course “Scientific Visualization with Adobe Illustrator: From Basics to Publication-Ready Figures” is ideal preparation. [This course counts towards the Essential Skills Requirement for PhD Students—2022 cohort and onwards].

Evaluation: Attendance and participation.
Teaching format: Five live online sessions with the instructor plus 10 hours of (group) self-study using video tutorials and guided assignments. Participants will have access to the self-study video content for three months after the course ends. Please note that the time required for the main assignment may vary depending on complexity.
Previous knowledge:
To take full advantage of this workshop, it is best to have some previous experience using the Adobe Illustrator. The course “Scientific Visualization with Adobe Illustrator: From Basics to Publication-Ready Figures” is ideal preparation.
